Have you ever stopped to consider what it will be like to meet God face-to-face? Will you feel like a child in trouble with a parent or teacher? Embarrassed that you have misbehaved? Feeling the guilt of your sin? Tears, perhaps?
On Friday, my brother went to a friend's wedding. He said during the vows, the bride shed a few tears and the groom reached up and wiped them from her cheek. He reminded me of how a wedding is a picture of Christ and His bride - the church. As if Christ were wiping away our tears and saying, "I forgive you. I paid the price and you are now forgiven and made holy to be My bride."
And I saw a new heaven and a new earth:
for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away;
and there was no more sea.
And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem,
coming down from God out of heaven,
prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.
And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying,
Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men,
and He will dwell with them,
and they shall be His people,
and God Himself shall be with them,
and be their God.
And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes;
and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying,
neither shall there be any more pain:
for the former things are passed away.
Rev 21:1-4 (KJV)
This Christmas have you met this Christ? Christmas isn't just a time for family, food and presents. It's so much more. It's the time we remember the birth of our Saviour. A holy God came to earth to live among man as a little baby to suffer for our - MY - YOUR - sins . . . .to forgive us so we can be reconciled to God. And someday when we (if we have accepted His gift of salvation) are in His presence, He will wipe away our tears and we will rejoice with Him for eternity.
Good Christian men, rejoice,
With heart and soul and voice!
Now ye hear of endless bliss:
Joy! Joy! Jesus Christ was born for this!
He has opened heaven's door,
And man is blest forevermore.
Christ was born for this!
Christ was born for this!
Good Christian men, rejoice,
With heart and soul and voice!
Now ye need not fear the grave:
Peace! Peace! Jesus Christ was born to save!
Calls you one and calls you all
To gain His everlasting hall.
Christ was born to save!
Christ was born to save!
(14th century Latin carol)
